AIQ vs State Quota NEET 2026: Key Differences

At a Glance

NEET UG counselling runs in two parallel tracks. All India Quota (AIQ) covers 15% of government MBBS/BDS seats, is conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and requires no domicile certificate. State Quota covers the remaining 85% of government seats plus nearly all private college seats, and is conducted separately by each state's counselling authority, which does require a domicile/residence certificate. Students can register for both simultaneously.

Why It Matters

Many students lose a seat simply because they misunderstand quota rules — for example, submitting a state-format OBC certificate for AIQ counselling, which MCC rejects since only the Central OBC list applies there. Because AIQ and state quota run on separate portals with separate timelines, missing either registration window can cost you a seat entirely. Get your domicile/residence certificate ready early, since state authorities are strict about proof of residence, and confirm your category certificate matches the correct format (Central vs. State) before choice-filling. Track both mcc.nic.in and your home state's medical counselling website — the schedules rarely align exactly, and each has its own deadlines.
